Overview

TEROSON MS 9360 (commonly supplied as TEROSON MS 9360 A BK) is a one-component, high-viscosity, sag-resistant adhesive based on silane-modified polymer technology. It cures with ambient humidity to form an elastic, durable bond line suitable for both bonding and sealing. Mercateo+1

The material is supplied as a pasty, thixotropic black paste, giving high position tack after parts are assembled. It is free of solvents, isocyanates, silicones and PVC, demonstrates good adhesion to many substrates, and offers good UV resistance, so it can be used for both interior and exterior applications.

Typical use is elastic bonding on metallic or painted substrates and adhesive sealings of all kinds, especially where a permanently elastic, non-sag joint is needed.

Surface Preparation & Application Guidance

Summarised from the official directions for use:

Surface preparation

  • Substrates must be clean, dry and free of oil and grease.

  • Depending on the surface, it may be necessary to roughen and/or use a primer/adhesion promoter.

  • Plastics often carry mould-release agents; these must be carefully removed.

  • Due to the variety of paints (especially powder coatings) and substrates, application trials are required before series use.

  • For cleaning, Henkel recommends Cleaner + Diluent A, FL or TEROSON SB 450 from its portfolio.

Substrate limitations

  • When bonding/sealing PMMA (e.g. Plexiglas®) and polycarbonate (e.g. Makrolon®, Lexan®) under stress, stress corrosion cracking may occur, so trials are necessary.

  • The product shows no adhesion to polyethylene, polypropylene or PTFE (Teflon®); such substrates require different solutions.

Application

  • From 290 ml cartridges: apply using TEROSON hand or air-pressure pistols.

  • From 310 ml or 570 ml foil packs: use FK hand or air-pressure pistols.

  • Compressed air application: 2–5 bar is typically needed.

  • Low material temperature increases viscosity and reduces extrusion rate → bring the product to room temperature before use for easier application.

  • Can also be dispensed from hobbocks or drums using high-pressure pumps with follower plates, per Henkel’s separate application guidelines.

Cleaning of equipment

  • For uncured material on equipment, Henkel recommends Cleaner + Diluent TEROSON A, D or FL.

FAQs

Q1. What type of product is TEROSON MS 9360?
TEROSON MS 9360 is a one-component adhesive based on silane-modified polymer (SMP) technology. It is a high-viscosity, pasty, thixotropic material that cures with humidity to an elastic product.

Q2. Is it a sealant or an adhesive?
Henkel classifies it as an adhesive and it is widely used for elastic bonding on metallic or painted substrates. At the same time, it is also used for adhesive sealings of all kinds, so it functions as an adhesive/sealant for many assembly joints.

Q3. What are the key mechanical properties after cure?
Typical values from the TDS (23 °C / 50 % RH) are: Shore A ≈ 60, tensile strength ≈ 3.5 MPa, elongation at break ≈ 200 %, and stress at 100 % elongation ≈ 2.0 MPa. Tensile shear strength on aluminium alloys (ISO 4587) is given as 2 MPa at 2 mm thickness.

Q4. How fast does TEROSON MS 9360 skin and cure?
At standard climate (23 °C, 50 % RH), the skin forms in approximately 4–10 minutes and the cure rate is about 3 mm per 24 hours. Deeper beads require proportionally more time.

Q5. What temperature range can it withstand in service?
The TDS lists an in-service temperature range of –40 to +100 °C, with short-term exposure up to 120 °C for up to 1 hour.

Q6. Is TEROSON MS 9360 solvent-free and isocyanate-free?
Yes. The product is described as free of solvents, isocyanates, silicones and PVC. This helps reduce emissions and compatibility issues compared to many traditional sealants.

Q7. Which substrates does it not bond to?
According to the TDS, TEROSON MS 9360 shows no adhesion to polyethylene, polypropylene and PTFE (Teflon®). For PMMA and polycarbonate under stress, there is a risk of stress cracking, so suitability must be confirmed by trials.

Q8. What are the storage conditions and shelf life?
The product is not frost-sensitive and should be stored at 10–25 °C in unopened original packaging. The stated shelf life is 12 months under these conditions.
