Overview

Loctite EA E-32 is a two-component structural epoxy adhesive designed for strong, durable bonding in industrial assembly, fabrication and repair. It combines good working time with high final strength, making it suitable for both manual and automated applications.

Once cured, Loctite EA E-32:

  • Provides high shear and peel strength on properly prepared substrates

  • Offers a tough, impact-resistant bond line for dynamic loads

  • Bonds metals, composites, many plastics and ceramics

  • Resists common oils, coolants and industrial environments

It is a solid choice when you want to supplement or replace mechanical fasteners, improve stiffness and reduce noise and vibration.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Two-part structural epoxy
Resin and hardener react to form a rigid, high-strength adhesive suitable for structural and semi-structural joints.

  • Controlled working time
Provides enough open time for part positioning and assembly, yet develops handling strength in a practical production window.

  • Gap-filling capability
Designed to fill small gaps and surface irregularities, making it more forgiving than very low-viscosity systems.

  • Multi-substrate adhesion
Bonds steel, aluminium, composites and many engineering plastics (always pre-test critical plastics).

  • Room-temperature cure
Cures at ambient temperature; in many processes, moderate heat can be used to accelerate cure and throughput if the design allows.

Typical Applications

  • Metal and composite assemblies

    • Bonding brackets, ribs, stiffeners and inserts

    • Joining composite skins to metal or composite frames

  • Equipment and enclosure assembly

    • Bonded covers, panels and structural housings

    • Frames and supports subject to vibration and shock

  • General industrial manufacturing & repair

    • Replacing or backing up welds, screws and rivets

    • Structural repairs on metal and composite parts (where OEM-approved)

For safety-critical joints, always validate design, surface preparation and cure schedule by testing under real conditions.

How to Use Loctite EA E-32

Step 1 – Surface preparation

  1. Ensure surfaces are clean, dry and structurally sound.

  2. Remove loose paint, rust, scale and weak coatings.

  3. Degrease with a suitable cleaner to remove oil, grease and release agents.

  4. For high-performance joints, light abrasion or grit blasting followed by cleaning is recommended.

Step 2 – Mixing

  1. Bring both components to the recommended working temperature.

  2. Mix resin and hardener at the specified mix ratio (by weight or volume).

  3. Stir thoroughly, scraping sides and bottom of the container until color and texture are uniform.

  4. Avoid whipping excessive air into the mixture and respect the pot life.

Step 3 – Application

  1. Apply the mixed adhesive to one or both surfaces using a spreader, spatula or dispensing system.

  2. Ensure a continuous, even layer that fully wets the bonding area and fills minor gaps.

  3. Assemble the parts within the adhesive’s working time.

Step 4 – Assembly & cure

  1. Position parts correctly and apply light clamping or fixturing to maintain alignment and bond line thickness.

  2. Do not over-clamp; a thin continuous bond line is ideal.

  3. Allow the assembly to cure at room temperature until handling strength is achieved.

  4. If permitted, moderate heating can reduce cure time and increase early strength.

Step 5 – Finishing

  1. Remove excess uncured adhesive with a suitable solvent and a clean cloth.

  2. After full cure, excess can only be removed mechanically (scraping, sanding, machining).

  3. Cured joints can typically be drilled, machined or painted as required.

Safety & Handling

  • Avoid skin and eye contact with uncured resin and hardener; epoxies and hardeners can cause irritation or sensitization.

  • Use in a well-ventilated area and avoid inhaling vapors or sanding dust from cured adhesive.

  • Wear suitable PPE: chemical-resistant gloves, safety glasses and protective clothing.

  • Do not release uncured material into drains or natural waterways; dispose of waste in line with local regulations.

  • Store both components in their original, tightly closed containers in a cool, dry place away from heat and ignition sources.

FAQs

Q1: What is Loctite EA E-32 mainly used for?
It is mainly used for structural bonding of metals, composites and selected plastics in assemblies that require high strength, gap filling and durability.

Q2: Does Loctite EA E-32 cure at room temperature?
Yes. EA E-32 is designed to cure at ambient temperature after proper mixing. Where the design allows, moderate heat can be used to speed up cure and handling strength.

Q3: Can EA E-32 replace welding or mechanical fasteners?
In some designs it can reduce or replace welds and fasteners, but this must be confirmed by engineering calculations and physical testing. Many users combine adhesive bonding with a reduced number of fasteners for redundancy.

Q4: Can Loctite EA E-32 bond plastics as well as metals?
It can bond many engineering plastics, but performance depends on the specific polymer and surface preparation. Low-surface-energy or very flexible plastics may require special treatment or another adhesive. Always test your exact substrate.

Q5: How thick can the bond line be?
EA E-32 has gap-filling capability, but very thick bond lines cure more slowly and can affect final properties. Follow your technical guidance for recommended bond line thickness and design.

Q6: Is the cured adhesive flexible?
Once cured, Loctite EA E-32 forms a rigid structural bond with some toughness for impact and vibration, but it is not a soft, highly flexible sealant. If you need a very flexible joint, consider a different adhesive technology.

Q7: How can a bonded joint be disassembled or repaired?
Cured structural epoxies are difficult to remove. Typically you must cut, grind or machine the joint and, where allowed, apply controlled heat to help release it. Design assemblies with future maintenance in mind.
