LOCTITE 675 is a one-part, anaerobic retaining adhesive formulated for bonding cylindrical fitting parts (such as bearings, bushes, shells, shafts) where tight tolerances and close metal-to-metal fits exist. Its very low viscosity allows flow into narrow gaps and keyways, while its slow fixture time (~45 min on steel) gives ample positioning time for complex assembly. Once cured in the absence of air between close-fitting metal surfaces, it creates a durable bond that resists vibration, shock and leakage. It supports diametrical clearances up to approximately 0.10 mm (0.004″) and operates in service temperature ranges from –55 °C to +150 °C.
This product meets military specification MIL-R-46082 Type I, enhancing its suitability for demanding industrial and aerospace assemblies.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Very low viscosity — penetrates tight fits and keyways effectively.

  • Slow-cure fixture time (~45 min) — allows alignment and adjustment in larger or complex assemblies.

  • High shear strength (~20 N/mm² on steel) — provides robust retention in precision assemblies.

  • Tight gap capability (<0.10 mm) — optimized for close-fitting cylindrical parts.

  • Wide temperature resistance (–55 °C to +150 °C) — suitable for industrial environments and thermal cycling.

  • One-component anaerobic system — no mixing required, cures between metal surfaces.

How to Use

  1. Surface Preparation
Ensure all mating metal surfaces are clean, free of heavy oil, coatings, corrosion and old adhesives. Degrease if necessary.

  2. Application
Apply LOCTITE 675 to the cylindrical surface (shaft or bore) or around keyways/splines. For slip-fit assemblies, coat the leading edge and rotate during assembly to distribute evenly. For press fits, apply adhesive to one surface and assemble immediately.

  3. Assembly & Alignment
Because of the slow cure, you have extended time for adjustment. Ensure parts remain in contact and confined until cure begins.

  4. Curing / Handling
Initial handling strength is reached after approximately 45 minutes (steel) under optimal conditions. Full cure occurs over 24 hours. Avoid loading or movement until initial handling strength is achieved.

  5. Disassembly / Repair
For bonded parts requiring removal, apply localized heat and/or mechanical force. Use appropriate solvents to assist removal if required, following safety data sheet instructions.

FAQs

Q1: Can LOCTITE 675 be used on larger clearance fits?
A1: It is optimized for very tight clearances (~0.10 mm). For larger gaps, a different grade with higher gap-fill should be considered.

Q2: What is the benefit of the slow cure time?
A2: The extended fixture time (~45 minutes) allows better maneuvering, alignment and positioning of parts before bonding sets.

Q3: Does it require a primer for passive metals?
A3: Generally, no primer is required for common metal assemblies. Refer to the TDS for specific passive metal conditions.

Q4: What is its MIL specification?
A4: LOCTITE 675 meets MIL-R-46082B Type I.
