Product Overview

LOCTITE 635 is a single-component, medium-viscosity anaerobic retaining compound engineered to provide extremely high strength on cylindrical fitting parts such as bearings, bushings, and sleeves. The compound cures when confined between close-fitting metal surfaces in the absence of air, forming a solid bond that prevents loosening and leakage from shock or vibration. Ideal for precise assemblies where long-term performance under load is critical.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Very high shear strength — ideal for heavy duty cylindrical assemblies.

  • Medium viscosity — flows well into close-fitting parts while maintaining strength.

  • Fluorescent under UV for inspection of correct application.

  • Suitable for active and passive metals (when properly applied).

  • Helps lock bearings, bushings, sleeves, and shafts to prevent movement and leakage.

Application

  1. Surface Preparation: Remove old adhesives, oils, dirt and loose material from mating metal surfaces.

  2. Application: Apply LOCTITE 635 to the shaft or bore surface in a continuous bead or appropriate pattern for the application.

  3. Assembly: Insert the mating part and rotate slightly if applicable to distribute the compound.

  4. Curing / Handling: Allow the adhesive to cure in the absence of air at the interface; initial handling strength typically achieved after ~6 minutes on steel. Full cure over time as per data sheet.

  5. Disassembly / Repair: For disassembly, use localized heat (e.g., ~250 °C) and mechanical tools as appropriate; always refer to the Technical Data Sheet (TDS).
Tip: Maintain confinement of parts during cure; keep gap within specification (<0.15 mm) for optimal strength.

FAQs

  • Q: What clearances can LOCTITE 635 handle?
A: Typically clearances less than ~0.15 mm for optimal strength.

  • Q: Can it be used with stainless steel or plated surfaces?
A: Yes, when surfaces are clean, though cure speed may vary.

  • Q: What is the fixture time?
A: Approximately 6 minutes on steel under standard conditions.

  • Q: Is LOCTITE 635 removable?
A: Yes, parts may be separated with heat and mechanical tools; but it is designed for strong, durable retention.
