Overview
Loctite 5770 is an off-white to purplish-grey, high-viscosity, dimethacrylate acrylic thread sealant paste for metal threaded pipes and fittings. It is specially developed for demanding steam piping and high-temperature services, locking and sealing threads up to around 280 °C (536 °F) and 930 psi (6.4 MPa) in industrial steam systems.
It provides medium-strength locking, so joints resist vibration yet can be disassembled with appropriate tools.
Key Features & Benefits
-
High-temperature, high-pressure performance – Suitable for industrial steam lines up to about 280 °C and 930 psi.
-
Medium-strength, paste consistency – Stays where applied, ideal for overhead and large-diameter threads.
-
Seals and locks metal threads – Prevents loosening and leakage from shock, vibration and thermal cycling.
-
One-part, anaerobic curing – No mixing; cures when confined between metal surfaces.
Typical Applications
-
Steam piping systems in power plants, process plants and district heating
-
High-temperature utility lines where typical thread sealants are not enough
-
General industrial metal pipe joints needing improved high-temperature sealing
How to Use
-
Clean metal threads; remove grease, tape and old sealant.
-
Apply Loctite 5770 to male threads in a continuous band.
-
Assemble and torque the joint to specification.
-
Allow product to cure at ambient temperature; observe the TDS for minimum cure time before exposing to full steam temperature and pressure.
FAQs
Q1: What makes Loctite 5770 suitable for steam?
It is formulated for elevated temperature and pressure, with performance up to about 280 °C (536 °F) and 930 psi, which many standard sealants cannot handle.
Q2: Is it still removable?
Yes. It is medium strength; joints can be disassembled with suitable tools, considering thread size and service history.
Q3: Can I use Loctite 5770 on plastic or non-metallic fittings?
No. It’s designed for metal threaded pipes and fittings only.
Q4: Does it work only with steam?
No. It can also be used on other high-temperature utilities where its chemistry is compatible; always verify with the latest TDS and your process media.
Q5: Do I still need PTFE tape?
Generally not. Loctite 5770 is designed to replace tape and paste on metal threads, providing both sealing and vibration resistance.
