Overview
Loctite 569 is an anaerobic pipe thread sealant designed for metal threaded fittings, especially in hydraulic, pneumatic and general industrial fluid systems.
It cures in the absence of air and in contact with metal, forming a chemically resistant, low-strength seal that prevents leakage of liquids and gases while still allowing future disassembly with normal tools.
Use Loctite 569 when you need a reliable, liquid thread seal that replaces PTFE tape and paste on rigid metal pipework.
Key Features & Benefits
-
Reliable sealing on metal threads
Fills voids between male and female threads to prevent micro-leaks and weeping under pressure. -
Replaces tapes and pastes
No shredding, creep or cold flow like PTFE tape; no messy rework from traditional thread compounds. -
Low disassembly torque
Designed as a low to medium strength sealant so fittings can be disassembled for service with standard hand tools. -
Good chemical resistance
Resists common hydraulic oils, lubricants, coolants and many industrial fluids (check compatibility for critical media). -
Controlled lubricity for assembly
Lubricates thread engagement, helping achieve consistent tightening and reducing risk of thread galling on metal fittings. -
Prevents corrosion and fretting
Seals out moisture and contaminants in the thread root, reducing rust and seizure over time.
Typical Applications
Loctite 569 is suitable for rigid metal pipe and fittings, including:
-
Hydraulic and pneumatic manifolds and adapters
-
Process and utility lines in industrial machinery
-
General plant air and low-to-medium pressure liquid systems
-
Metal pipe unions, plugs, elbows and tees
-
Threaded connections in maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) jobs
Recommended substrates: steel, stainless steel, brass, bronze and other metallic pipe fittings.
(Not recommended for plastic threads or oxygen-rich service unless confirmed by the system owner.)
How Loctite 569 Works
Loctite 569 is an anaerobic methacrylate sealant:
-
The liquid product is applied to the male threads.
-
As the fitting is assembled, excess is squeezed out and the remaining material fills the gaps in the thread spiral.
-
In the absence of air and in contact with active metal surfaces, the sealant polymerizes (cures) to a tough plastic that seals against leakage and resists vibration.
Unlike tapes, the cured seal cannot be extruded out of the joint under pressure, so sealing performance remains stable over time.
Typical Properties Snapshot
Values are typical for anaerobic pipe sealants of this type and given for general guidance only. Always refer to the current technical data sheet and test in your own conditions.
-
Technology: Anaerobic thread sealant for metal pipe threads
-
Appearance: Liquid, typically in a colored formulation for easy visual inspection
-
Strength level: Low to medium break torque on fittings (serviceable with normal tools)
-
Viscosity: Medium – designed to wet threads but not run excessively
-
Service temperature: Suitable for typical industrial hydraulic and utility temperatures
-
Cure: Fixture strength in a few hours on active metals; full cure typically within 24 hours at room temperature
Directions for Use
-
Surface preparation
-
Clean threads to remove oil, grease, dirt and old sealants. Use a suitable solvent or cleaner.
-
For best results on inactive metals or slightly oily surfaces, use a compatible Loctite primer (if available in your system).
-
-
Application
-
Shake the bottle and apply a continuous bead of Loctite 569 around the male thread, 1–2 pitches back from the leading edge.
-
For larger diameters, apply in several spots around the circumference or to both male and female threads.
-
-
Assembly
-
Assemble fittings to the specified torque.
-
Remove any visible excess sealant from the outside of the joint.
-
-
Cure and pressure testing
-
Allow sufficient cure time before applying full system pressure; fixture time depends on material, clearance and temperature.
-
For critical systems, perform a pressure or leak test before returning equipment to service.
-
-
Disassembly
-
Loosen the fitting with normal hand tools.
-
If joints are tight after long service, moderate heat or penetrating oil may help before disassembly.
-
Storage & Handling
-
Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.
-
Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use; product is designed to cure in the absence of air.
-
Observe standard industrial hygiene practices – avoid prolonged skin contact and follow the safety data sheet (SDS).
FAQs
Q1: When should I choose Loctite 569 instead of PTFE tape?
A: Choose Loctite 569 when you want a permanent, gap-filling liquid seal that won’t shred, cold-flow or need retightening. It’s particularly useful on rigid metal pipe systems where maintenance access is limited and leak risk is costly.
Q2: Can Loctite 569 be used on plastic threads?
A: Loctite 569 is formulated primarily for metal threads. Plastic threads can creep and crack under stress; use a sealant specifically recommended for plastics if needed.
Q3: Is Loctite 569 removable?
A: Yes. It is a low to medium strength sealant. Fittings can normally be disassembled with standard hand tools, even after long-term service.
Q4: What if my system handles aggressive chemicals or very high temperatures?
A: Always confirm chemical and temperature compatibility with the product data sheet and, for critical service, run a small-scale validation test before full deployment.
