Overview
Loctite 567 is a one-part, anaerobic thread sealant designed for metal pipe and fitting threads, especially coarse threads and stainless steel where standard sealants may cure slowly or give unreliable sealing.
Applied to the male threads and assembled:
-
Fills the voids between metal threads to create a reliable seal
-
Helps prevent leaks of oils, fuels, gases and many industrial fluids
-
Resists vibration, thermal cycling and pressure changes
-
Reduces risk of galling and seizure on stainless and other “difficult” metals
It is widely used in maintenance, repair and OEM assembly where you need clean, reliable pipe thread sealing without tapes or loose pastes.
Key Features & Benefits
-
Anaerobic, one-part liquid
Cures in the absence of air between metal threads, forming a thermoset plastic seal in the thread gap. No mixing required. -
Optimized for coarse threads & stainless steel
Formulated to speed cure and improve sealing on less reactive metals and coarse threaded fittings, where ordinary sealants may struggle. -
High sealing reliability
Provides a robust, pressure-tight seal for many common industrial fluids, helping reduce rework and call-backs. -
Non-shredding, non-migrating
Unlike PTFE tape, Loctite 567 does not shred into the system and won’t cold flow away from the joint once cured. -
Controlled disassembly
Threaded joints sealed with Loctite 567 can typically be disassembled with normal tools, simplifying maintenance while resisting vibration loosening in service.
Typical Applications
It is used on metal pipe and fitting threads, particularly:
-
Hydraulic and pneumatic lines
-
Threaded adapters, couplings and manifolds
-
Instrumentation and control lines
-
-
Process & plant piping
-
Oil, fuel and coolant lines (where compatible)
-
General-purpose utility services and lubrication circuits
-
-
Maintenance and repair (MRO)
-
Retrofitting or replacing fittings on pumps, compressors and valves
-
Sealing threaded connections on tanks, reservoirs and skids
-
Not recommended for plastic fittings or pure oxygen systems. Always confirm compatibility with the specific fluid and operating conditions.
How to Use Loctite 567
Step 1 – Surface preparation
-
Ensure threads are clean, dry and free from oil, old tape, rust and dirt.
-
Use a wire brush or thread cleaner to remove debris and old sealant if needed.
-
Degrease with a suitable cleaner for best performance.
Step 2 – Apply the sealant
-
Shake the tube/bottle if required.
-
Apply a continuous bead of Loctite 567 to the male threads, covering the area that will be engaged in the joint.
-
For larger sizes, apply product around several threads to ensure full circumferential coverage.
Step 3 – Assemble
-
Immediately assemble the joint, tightening to the specified torque or number of turns.
-
Small squeeze-out at the first thread or two is normal; do not wipe uncured product back into the joint.
Step 4 – Cure and return to service
-
Loctite 567 begins to fixture (reach handling strength) as it cures between the metal threads.
-
Full cure time depends on temperature, thread size, gap and metal reactivity.
-
Only apply full operating pressure and maximum temperature after the sealant has reached full cure according to your procedure.
Step 5 – Disassembly
-
For service, loosen the joint with normal hand tools.
-
Clean the threads thoroughly, removing cured sealant before reapplying fresh product for reassembly.
Safety & Handling
-
Avoid prolonged skin and eye contact with uncured product; may cause irritation.
-
Use in a well-ventilated area and avoid breathing vapours.
-
Wear suitable PPE: chemical-resistant gloves and safety glasses as a minimum.
-
Do not pour uncured material into drains or natural waterways.
-
Store in the original, tightly closed container in a cool, dry place away from heat and direct sunlight.
Always refer to the latest Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for Loctite 567 for detailed, region-specific guidance.
FAQs
Q1: What is Loctite 567 mainly used for?
Loctite 567 is mainly used for sealing coarse metal pipe threads, especially stainless steel and other passive metals, in hydraulic, pneumatic and process systems.
Q2: Can I use Loctite 567 on plastic fittings?
No. Loctite 567 is designed for metal threads. On plastics, anaerobic products may not cure properly and some plastics may be stressed or damaged. Use a sealant specifically rated for plastic fittings.
Q3: How is Loctite 567 different from PTFE tape?
PTFE tape can shred and be pulled into valves or filters, and it doesn’t lock the threads. Loctite 567 cures to a solid seal in the threads, helping prevent leaks and micro-movement without leaving loose fragments.
Q4: Can Loctite 567 be used on fine threads?
It can seal both fine and coarse threads, but it is particularly optimized for coarse threads. For very fine or small threads, other Loctite thread sealants may be recommended depending on your application.
Q5: Is Loctite 567 suitable for high temperature or high pressure?
Loctite 567 is formulated for demanding industrial conditions, but specific limits depend on your system. Always consult technical data and test under actual temperature, pressure and fluid conditions.
Q6: How long does Loctite 567 take to cure?
Fixture and full cure times depend on metal type, temperature and thread size. Active metals at warm temperatures cure faster; passive metals and cold conditions cure slower. Allow sufficient time before applying full load.
Q7: Will Loctite 567 permanently lock the fitting?
No. It is a thread sealant, not a high-strength threadlocker. Joints can normally be disassembled with standard tools, although more torque may be needed than with an unsealed joint.
