Overview

Loctite 564 is a white, methacrylate-based, anaerobic thread sealant paste for locking and sealing metal pipes and fittings. Its lubricating properties help threads tighten smoothly to the correct torque, while the cured polymer provides a low-strength, pressure-tight seal that resists vibration.

It is designed for service typically from -65 °F to +300 °F (-54 °C to +150 °C).

Key Features & Benefits

  • White paste, easy to see on threads

  • Locks and seals metal pipe threads – Prevents loosening and leakage from shock and vibration.

  • Lubricating behavior – Aids assembly and helps achieve consistent torque.

  • Low strength – Joints are serviceable with standard tools.

  • Wide temperature range – Suited to many utility fluids and general plant services.

Typical Applications

  • General industrial pipework and fittings (air, water, oils, low-pressure process fluids)

  • Equipment manifolds, small bore piping and utility lines where disassembly is required

How to Use

  1. Clean metal threads; remove oil, tape and old sealant.

  2. Apply Loctite 564 to the male threads, working it into the roots.

  3. Assemble and torque the joint.

  4. Product provides low-pressure sealing on assembly; allow up to 72 hours at room temperature for full cure.

FAQs

Q1: What is the main difference between Loctite 564 and PTFE tape?
Loctite 564 does not shred and will not migrate into filters or valves; it also locks threads against vibration.

Q2: Can Loctite 564 be used on stainless steel?
Yes, it is compatible with common engineering metals. On very passive substrates, cure may be slower—check the TDS if cure speed is critical.

Q3: Is it suitable for high-temperature steam?
It is rated to around 300 °F (150 °C). For high-temperature steam, consider a specialized high-temperature thread sealant such as Loctite 5770.

Q4: Can I disassemble fittings sealed with Loctite 564?
Yes. It is low strength, so joints can be separated with normal hand tools.

Q5: Does it work on plastic threads?
No, it’s intended for metal threads only.
