Overview

Loctite 5452 is a purple, thixotropic, anaerobic thread sealant designed for sealing hydraulic and pneumatic fittings. Its gel-like flow behavior lets it sit where you apply it, making it suitable for large-diameter fittings and vertical joints. It contains no solid fillers, so there’s nothing to clog small orifices, valves or filters in hydraulic systems.

Once confined in the threads and isolated from air, Loctite 5452 cures to form a medium-strength polymer seal that resists loosening, leakage, vibration and pressure cycling in critical fluid systems.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Designed for hydraulic & pneumatic systems – Protects sensitive circuits because it contains no particles or fillers.

  • Thixotropic, non-running liquid – Stays where you put it, ideal for larger fittings and overhead work.

  • Medium-strength sealing – Resists vibration yet allows disassembly with normal tools.

  • Wide temperature range – Typically rated from -65 °F to +300 °F (-54 °C to +150 °C).

  • Prevents loosening of “dry seal” fittings – Helps O-ring boss connectors and other dry-seal designs stay tight under pressure.

Typical Applications

  • Hydraulic fittings on presses, injection molding machines, lifts and power packs

  • Pneumatic manifolds, regulators and cylinders

  • Dry-seal and O-ring boss style connectors where leak prevention is critical

How to Use

  1. Clean male and female threads to remove oil, tape, and old sealant.

  2. Apply Loctite 5452 to the male threads, covering several turns.

  3. Assemble and torque the joint as specified.

  4. Low-pressure sealing is typically immediate; allow 24 hours at room temperature for full cure and maximum performance.

FAQs

Q1: Why choose Loctite 5452 instead of a PTFE tape?
Because 5452 has no loose particles, there’s less risk of debris blocking small hydraulic passages, and the seal is more vibration-resistant.

Q2: Can I use Loctite 5452 on plastics?
No. It’s an anaerobic sealant for metal threads. Some plastics can crack with anaerobic chemistry; use a plastic-compatible product instead.

Q3: Is Loctite 5452 suitable for high-pressure hydraulics?
Yes, it’s formulated for hydraulic and pneumatic service. Always verify the system pressure rating against the latest TDS and test on your hardware.

Q4: Can joints be disassembled?
Yes. It is medium strength, so fittings can usually be disassembled with normal tools for maintenance.

Q5: Does it contaminate hydraulic oil?
Once cured, it becomes a stable, crosslinked polymer confined in the threads; it is designed not to shed particles into the fluid stream.
